ENZO MARESCA DESCRIBES THE CHALLENGES FACING ARSENAL AND THE CRUCIAL MIDFIELD CONFLICT.
Arsenal has shown itself to be a formidable opponent this season, but Enzo Maresca thinks his Chelsea team is up to the task. Arsenal is leading the Champions League, first in the Premier League, and at least three points ahead in both.
This season, the Gunners have been living up to their preseason reputation as serious contenders for trophies, leading the Premier League in goals from dead-ball situations and being especially deadly from set-pieces. Our head coach is fully aware of their strengths and the threat they pose ahead of our meeting at the Bridge, having already defeated teams like Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid in Europe.
Maresca believes that Sunday's opponents should also be given credit for their defensive efforts, citing their consistently strong back line as a factor in their success as teams from all over the continent find it difficult to defeat them.
But the head coach of the Blues is aware of his team's strengths, and after Chelsea defeated Barcelona handily in the Champions League midweek, he has backed his team to cause trouble for our London rivals on Sunday afternoon.
"Arsenal defends incredibly well," Maresca said at his press conference prior to the game.
Any opposing team finds it difficult to score goals. to create opportunities as well as to score goals. They have weapons when they attack, and as a team, they defend quite effectively.
They score goals from set-pieces against any team, so they're not just a threat against one or two. They scored their first goal from a corner against Bayern Munich. They have a very effective system in place, they score goals against any team, and we will try our hardest to stop them.
The middle of the field will see a lot of action because Moises Caicedo and Declan Rice, two of the best midfielders in the world of football, will square off if they are chosen. Maresca maintains that the midfield battle is just one aspect of the larger strategy, even though he is aware that it will be a contentious area with many eyes on it."It's a significant portion of the game, but it's just one," he continued. Other players will enter from the bench because it's 11 against 11. Thus, it's a large picture, but only a portion of it.
"I believe there are a lot of excellent players in the Premier League, especially excellent midfielders." In addition to Moi and Declan, there were Rodri from Manchester City, [Elliot] Anderson from Nottingham Forest, and Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United. There are many talented midfielders in the league.
